Thanking/Taunting

-THANKING/TAUNTING FOR A KILL-

When you've put your opponent in dying status, instead of simply finishing them off, you stand in their face and use the "Thank" command to thank them or press RS+LS at the same time to taunt them. They are in dying status and therefore can do absolutely nothing but stand there and watch you humilate them. The only reason to do this is because you're a douche bag who thinks you're something special.

This is the exact equivalant of going "NENER NENER NENER!" to someone because you're winning or got a kill on them. If you did this to random people you didn't know in real life, no one would tolerate you or respect you. You'd even likely get your ass kicked for it. So don't think just because you're hiding behind your Television set that people are going to think you're cool for
doing it. Usually people who do this are happy to do it until someone publicly 'tells' on them that they do this. Then they get their panties in a twist over the fact their name is being tarnished. But, if you're going to act like a jerk, don't cry when someone calls you a jerk.

The only time this is a justifiable tactic is when someone does it to you first. Just make sure you don't go thanking their partner who didn't do anything to you in turn for their partner thanking you.

-THANKING FOR A FAILED ATTEMPT-

Again, same routine here. If someone shoots a rocket at you and it misses, you perform the Thank command on them. Or if they try to kill you and end up killing themselves instead, you thank them for it, or any other number of reasons to Thank someone for screwing up.

It falls into the same category of being an unsportsmanlike player. You're essentially taunting your opponent for making a mistake just to be a douche. It's not 'in fun' since the only person gaining any semblance of 'fun' from that action is yourself. And taking pleasure in your opponents humilation or frustration is the mark of a true douche.

  1. This post just seems like you're blowing of steam because you lost a match.

"So don't think just because you're hiding behind your Television set that people are going to think you're cool for

I myself Thank people when they die or miss. I do not think I am cool or awesome, it's just teasing. I don't get angry when people thank me. It's just a game!

"If you did this to random people you didn't know in real life..." There's my point. THIS IS NOT LIFE! IT'S A GAME! It's just a way to pass the time. If you think that people are having fun are douches, then that's you're problem. You talk about playing fair, how people shouldn't discard weapons or camp. I agree with you 100%. Not allowing the other team a chance is cheating and not fair to the other team. But Thanking? It does no harm. It only aggravates people like you. And that's part of the reason people do it. Watching people get frustrated is quite amusing. But there is a simple way to counter this. It is not thanking them back; it's not taking it personal! No one knows who you are, they aren't doing it because they have a something against you. And I doubt they would have the same behavior in the "real world". I've said it before and I'll say it again. IT'S JUST A GAME!

  2. You just proved the point though. You do it because you enjoy pissing other people off and find amusement in annoying other people. That is the definition of a douche bag. If you were sitting in a public arcade playing a game with someone and you were winning, would you turn to them and go "HAHAHA YOU SUCK! NENER NENER NENER!"? No, because you'd get your ass kicked.

So why do you do it on an online game? Simple, because you can get away with it.
