Midnight Wesker

Midnight Albert Wesker

Cost to Unlock: 30,000 Points

Midnight Wesker is the first of the two available versions of the fabled antagonist in Versus. While unquestionably god tier in Mercenaries Mode, Midnight Wesker is mostly average in both Survivors and Slayers. In Survivor he starts with the H&K P8 Handgun, 3 Proximity Mines, and 3 Hand Grenades. In Slayers, he gains 2 additional mines and grenades to his arsenal along with the S&W M500 Magnum (aka the Handcannon).

In Survivors, Midnight is the only character to start without a First Aid Spray or any healing item at his disposal. He instead starts with Proximity Mines. This can be both a good and bad thing. It forces you to get healing items quickly, but, also allows you to start booby trapping weapon spawns early on before other players get to them. His Dash ability allows him an effective way of escaping or persuing an opponent, but, it does take away his life as well as has a very long startup and cooldown animation, which leaves him very open to attack. So using it wrecklessly like many players do will get him killed more often than saved.

In Slayers, Midnight can be powerful, but, can also be easily gimped. This is because he almost entirely relies on his Handcannon to excel in the mode. If stripped of ammo for this weapon, he's essentially gimped. His Handgun can kill normal majini in 2-3 hits and has a decent critical chance, but, against bosses, plagas or other players, he will have a tremendous uphill battle without his Magnum. However, if Magnum ammo is managed and stocked effectively, he can take out most bosses in one to two shots, the same for other players and plagas. The problem relies in the lag between shots for the overpowered Magnum. Other players can easily move out of the way during his lag and unload into him and dwindle his health while he tries to pop a magnum into them. This leaves him extremely open to being punished for it. Thereby making him extremely powerful in one way, yet extremely underpowered at the exact same time.

Against other players, as mentioned above, Midnight almost exclusively relies on his Magnum for this, but, like BS Jill and her sniper, having to rely on a single gun for almost everything, while that gun has a very small clip, makes for severe ammo issues. Add in the lag in between shots which leaves him heavily open to attack, and dealing with other players can be a nightmare at times for a Midnight player. The most effective way to deal with other players as Midnight is to either fire from a range, or stun them first with an Incendiary grenade, a hand grenade, or draw them into getting grabbed by an enemy. Anything that can not only stun them, but, take some of their life off of them as well. This will allow the first magnum shot you fire on them to put them in danger or dying status and effectively negate the lag of firing the gun in the first place.

Special Ability: Wesker has the unique ability to perform a super speed Dash, just like in the main game. However, this ability has two downsides. 1) It costs health to use. And if your health is too low, you will not be able to use it. 2) It is an extremely difficult move to control and without practice, it will hurt you far more than help you to use it against other players.

To perform his Dash, simply press the Right Stick down as a Button. This will iniate his dash as he'll lean forward and put his leg back as he gets ready to dash forward. He'll dash quite a great deal and then skid to a stop, leaving him open again.

During his dash, there are two additional things you can do on top of the dash itself. First, you can perform an attack at the peak of the dash, thus ending it prematurely and attempting to attack an opponent or enemy. Secondly, you can maneuver and turn him during his dash similiar to how he moves during the battles against him in the main game. However, this requires even more timing and precision to use effectively as well.

To perform the Tiger Knee attack during a dash, simply press the X button at any time during the dash you wish. However, your timing needs to be precise in order to actually connect the attack with an enemy. As Wesker will not simply stop at that exact second to perform the Knee, instead it will take a fraction of a second before he performs it, as well, the knee will push him forward a bit as well. So you need pre-empt it in order to connect it and judge your timing appropriately. If you miss with this attack, again, it will leave him wide open to be punished for it.

To perform his Dash Turning, during the startup of the dash on Control type A, you'll need to move the Left Stick in the direction you wish him to turn, and then press A. This will iniate his first turn. You can turn him up to 3 times during the dash. However, keep in mind you must input the turns ahead of time. You cannot turn on the fly. Each of the 3 turns needs to be inputted before he actually makes that turn. So you'd be inputting turn 1 at the start of the dash, turn 2 at turn 1, and turn 3 at turn 2. You cannot turn at the end of a dash to continue it. You either dash forward or you pre-plan your turns, one or the other.

To perform the turns on Control Type D, simply start the dash normally with RS, then instead of switching to LS, use the RS again to control the dash while using A to activate the turns just as mentioned above. The only thing you're switching is using RS instead of LS to perform the turns after you activate the dash with RS pressed down.

Keep in mind, his turns are limited to straight lines, he cannot circle or make curves. So you can only effectively push him left, right, forward, or backwards. Thus you can often land against a wall and stop the dash prematurely if you don't plan his turns appropriately.

Turning requires a LOT of practice and precision to use effectively. Using it simply to show off is the single best way to get yourself killed by other players. No one is going to think you're cool or amazing for simply doing it like tons of newbie Weskers try to do to show off. A Wesker that dashes ineffectively and leaves himself open to attack left and right is not something anyone will be impressed by, quite the opposite. It just makes you look like an idiot. Effectively using Wesker's Dash and turns is the only time anyone will care or be impressed by it. So practice it in player or friendly matches or in Mercenaries to get the timings down. And don't use it unless it's viable to do so.
